The Las Vegas Pit Crew Reading Program sponsored by Las Vegas Motor Speedway is set to start its second year April 1. The program, which begins April 1 and runs through Sept. 17, will take place at 40 different schools throughout the Las Vegas Valley. As part of the reading program, drivers who compete at the Bullring at LVMS visit second-grade classrooms to discuss the importance of reading, read a race story, answer questions and display their race cars. ¿We launched this reading program last year to help integrate motorsports into our schools,¿ said LVMS general manager Chris Powell. ¿This is one of many ways the speedway reaches out to the Las Vegas community. The interaction between our racers and the second graders in this community has received overwhelming praise from teachers and school administrators. It is a program we hope to continue for a long time.¿ Charger driver Jim Petrie will kick off the program April 1 with a visit to Walker International in Henderson. Super Late Model driver Steve Reeves will visit Cyril Wengert Elementary April 2. The Orleans NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series kicks off Saturday, April 26 with Super Late Models, Late Models, Legends, Chargers, Thunder Roadsters and Bandoleros.
