The fastest cars the Bullring will see this year will return to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this Saturday as the Supermodified Racing League (SRL) invades the Bullring at LVMS for the Open Wheel Extravaganza. The showcase marks the season finale for the 800-horsepower, methanol burning machines. Defending 2003 SRL champion Lonnie Adamson of Salt Lake City holds a 90-point lead over Bob Bigiogni of Salinas, Calif., heading into the final 40-lap event for the series. Other drivers scheduled to compete are three-time SRL champion Troy Reiger of Dinuba, Calif., former champion Ken Hamilton, veteran Jim Tartaglia of Reedley, Calif. and most recent winner A.J. Russell of Clovis, Calif. ¿The Open Wheel Extravaganza event has always provided the fastest, most exciting racing of the year at the Bullring,¿ said Andy Adamcik, manager of short track racing. ¿A season-high 25 supermodifieds are expected to participate for the SRL championship in their final event of the year.¿ In addition to crowning the SRL champion, the Stewart Motorsports IMCA Modified champion will be crowned at the conclusion of the 25-lap event. Larry Gerchman of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. holds a nine-point lead (437) over rookie Ken Kulikowski (428). Rookie Todd Stancliff (394), Eric Bauer (383) and Stoney Gray (378) round out the top five in point standings. Mechanix Wear Speed Trucks (99 laps) and Thunder Roadsters (25 laps) also are on the racing card. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying at 6:20, heat races at 7:15 and main events at 8. General admission is $15 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 and children five and under are free. Admission to the Stockyard is $50 per vehicle (up to four people, each additional person is $15).
