Las Vegas teen scores sixth place finish at

Charlotte Legends Cars race

Thirteen-year-old Leavitt Middle School eighth-grader Alex Haase of Las Vegas recently recorded a sixth-place finish in the Legend Car Asphalt Winter Heat Series at Lowe¿s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.

Haase, now in his third year of competition in the Legends, picked up a second-place finish in his first heat race before collecting a third-place in the second heat.

After starting on the outside of the third row in the 25-lap main event, Haase ran as high as fourth in the 16-car feature, which was run over a fifth-mile layout.

Scott Knox won the main event. Haase is now 21st in the 2003-2004 Legends Winter Heat Series although he competed in only one of six events driving a Legend Car owned by current NASCAR Busch Series rookie Kyle Busch.

Haase will now concentrate during the 2004 race season on more out-of-town events. He anticipates competition at Southern California tracks Irwindale Speedway, Orange Show in San Bernardino; and I-10 Speedway in Blythe, Calif., along with regular-season events at LVMS.

Haase won the Semi-Pro Division of Legend Car competition during 2003 season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway¿s 3/8-mile Bull Ring. He will advance to the Pro Division for 2004, which will begin March 6.
