Michael Lewis Jr. is already a USAC champion, but next weekend, he¿ll feel a little bit like a rookie again. Lewis is the reigning USAC Western States Sprint Car champion and the USAC National Rookie of the year. But he will feel like somewhat of a novice at the Orleans Hotel and Casino USAC Sprint Car and Midget Nationals set to run on Saturday, April 3 at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Despite his success in 2003, Lewis has had very limited track time at the Bullring. ¿It seems like every time I come here, it rains or it¿s something else,¿ Lewis said. ¿This year I¿m really looking forward to going there and getting to actually race, and hopefully we¿ll have a successful run at it.¿ Lewis enjoyed success in 2003 in the National Midget Series as well, but really showcased his talent in the Western Sprint Cars. He was able to take home six feature wins throughout the season, which lead him to the title. Along with capturing the Western Sprint Car title, Lewis also finished sixth in the Western Midget standings, 15th in the National Sprint Car standings and 19th in the National Midget standings. ¿We just hope to keep it up in Vegas,¿ Lewis said. ¿The only time I¿ve ever run there was in practice a few years ago, but that got cut short, of course, by rain. I¿m looking forward to it though. Should be a good time.¿ Lewis will race in the Sprint Car event as part of a three-feature night at the Bullring at LVMS. The Orleans Hotel and Casino USAC Sprint Car and Midget Nationals will consist of Ford Focus Midgets, Midgets and Sprint Cars, with spectator gates opening at 4 p.m. and qualifying set to begin at 4:30. A driver autograph session will follow, and the heat races will begin at 7 p.m. with the Ford Focus Midgets. B-Features will be at 8:30 p.m. for the Midgets and Sprint Cars. The feature events will begin at 9 p.m. with trophy presentations immediately following each race. For tickets, call 800-644-4444 or visit LVMS.com.
