Jace Meier, senior class president at Spring Valley High School and competitive race car driver, is partnering with The Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars to further his plan to help kids in Southern Nevada make wise choices for their lives.

On Sept. 12, a couple weeks before the main event: "Kids on Track—Night at the Races," Meier will visit Garside Middle School (300 S. Torrey Pines) to address 500 students in the school gym.  Meier will talk about the importance of saying "yes" to hope, learning, and life -- the mission of The Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars.  As a good-will gesture to the school, Meier and his sponsor, YORK® Heating and Air Conditioning, a Johnson Controls Company will donate 1000 tickets to the Sept. 23 Craftsman Truck Series Race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Students will then have the opportunity to interact with Meier outside the gym where his race car will be displayed.

On Sept. 30 Meier will host the 2nd Annual "Kids on Track—Night at the Races."  Meier and his group will take 35 Garside students out to dinner and then on to the Bullring at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway where they will watch Meier and others race.  Afterwards, Meier will bring the group down to the pits to see his racecar up close and personal, in addition to getting a chance to sit in the car, take pictures, and mingle with some of the other drivers.  Student selection will be based upon academic achievement, good attendance and participation in after-school programs.  Last year's event benefited Shade Tree Shelter, an organization Meier has been involved with since he was 12 years old.

"One of the most important things in my life is giving back to the community, especially when it involves kids," said Meier.  "I am looking forward to this year's event with a lot of anticipation."

Meier is a 17-year-old Las Vegas native in his fourth year of competitive racing.  He divides his time between racing at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Late Model Series, and in California as part of Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle Race Team.  When he isn't racing, Meier is an honor student at Spring Valley High School and a very active member in his school and the community.
