Scott Gafforini doesn't know Mark Martin, but he sure knows how Martin feels.

Gafforini, who drives a NASCAR Late Model at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and NASCAR Nextel Cup veteran Mark Martin have one thing in common.  Both are looking to secure a championship title after coming extremely close more than once.

Gafforini is a five-time series runner up while Martin has four second-place finishes in the NASCAR Nextel Cup point standings. Both are in contention of winning championships in their respective divisions in 2006.
In seven full seasons of racing, Gafforini has finished second in points five times (1998, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003).  Gafforini is currently two points behind leader Justin Johnson as they head into the final event on Saturday at the Bullring.

"We really don't have a strategy going into the final night," said Gafforini.  "We are busy replacing the rear-end explosion from last Saturday night.  We have new parts coming and my team has been great.  My dad usually handles my tires but he is in Italy so my younger brother has come on board to help.  We are going to do the best we can go and hopefully walk away with the championship."

Martin experienced the same fate in 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002.  Martin is currently third in points, 70 points behind leader Jeff Burton with seven races to go in the Chase for the Nextel Cup.

Headlining Saturday's race card is a 50-lap feature for the Super Late Models.  Joining the Super Late Models will be Late Models (30 laps), IMCA Modifieds (30 laps), Legends Cars (25 laps), Chargers (30 laps) and Bandoleros.
