July 27-29 SCORE event

From Ed, Tim and Troy Herbst, to Rob MacCachren, Cameron Steele, Alan Pflueger and NASCAR's Robby Gordon, the early entry field is complete for the second year of the newest event in desert racing, July's SCORE Las Vegas Terrible's Cup II.

Being held on a special man-made 'chunk of Baja' course in and around the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the best of SCORE desert racing will be on display July 28-29 in the glowing spotlight of entertainment and special events capital of the world.

While SCORE expects some special late entries at its option, the majority of the grid is set for the limited-field invitational to be held under the lights on a Friday and Saturday night at the world-class Dirt Track at LVMS. Leading the way are 20 of the best racers from the SCORE Desert Series in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division that are part of the early starting grid for the unique desert racing extravaganza.

With eight of the SCORE Desert racing classes split into five different groups, racing will begin at 7 p.m. each night at LVMS and both nights will conclude with elaborate Terrible's Fireworks Shows. Near-capacity crowds of around 10,000 are expected each night.

Nearly 90-percent of the 1.5 mile course will be viewable from the grandstands in the 10,026-seat facility. Competing in their own race will be the marquee SCORE Trophy-Trucks and the unlimited SCORE Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars along with special groups for open-wheelers in Class 1-2/1600 and Class 10/SCORE Lite along with the mini-trucks of Class 7/Class 7S/Class 7SX. The event will have a $60,000 cash purse plus contingency postings.

With each paid admission will also come one coupon for the free drawing for the SCORE Terrible's Fan Appreciation give-a-way. A new showroom Dodge Truck, donated by Terrible's, will be the grand prize given away on Saturday night (July 29) at LVMS. Friday night drawing prizes, also courtesy of Terrible's, will include free gas for a year, free car washes for a year, free oil changes for a year and a Mexican cruise for two.

As a prelude to the two days of racing, the SCORE Las Vegas Pit Stop at Fremont Street Experience will be held on Thursday, July 27. At the SCORE Pit Stop, starting at 6 p.m., will be a vehicle display and the $10,000 Terrible's Pit Crew Challenge for SCORE Trophy-Trucks, meet the SCORE racers party for all competing SCORE racers and a special SCORE concert under the multi-million dollar canopy on Fremont Street.

With co-title sponsorship from Las Vegas Events and Terrible's Convenience Stores, the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible's Cup I will feature two nights of racing on the LVMS Dirt Track. Racing will be on a purpose-built race track with limited pavement and man-made dirt simulations of the rugged desert terrain.

"Last year's inaugural SCORE Las Vegas Terrible's Cup was amazing and we fully anticipate this year's racing spectacular to be beyond belief," said Sal Fish, SCORE President/CEO. "In Las Vegas Events and Terrible Herbst, Inc., SCORE has incredible marketing partners who know how to promote an event like this."

After 12-plus years of rumbling around rugged desert race courses in the Southwestern U.S. and Baja California, Mexico, SCORE Trophy-Trucks--the untamed 800-horsepower, unlimited production trucks that are the featured racing division in the SCORE Desert Series--will return to short-course stadium racing for a command performance in July at LVMS.  Last year's debut was viewed as a major, fan-friendly success.

Among those already entered, Las Vegas' Ed and Tim Herbst, are the all-time winningest team in SCORE Trophy-Truck history. Splitting the driving time in their No. 19 Terrible Herbst Motorsports Ford F-150, Ed, 45, and Tim, 43, have 11 career wins in SCORE Trophy-Truck, and four of the 12 season championships (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003).

Troy Herbst, 40, the youngest of the three Herbst brothers, is a dominating SCORE Class 1 racer, with six SCORE season point titles in his class out of the last eight years, and 18 Class 1 race wins since 1997 in a Smithbuilt-Ford open wheel desert race car.

Las Vegas' Rob MacCachren will be racing in SCORE Trophy-Truck for team owner/driver of record Gus Vildosola in the No. 4 Vildosola Racing Ford F-150

Cameron Steele, an extreme sports and Champ Car World Series TV announcer, has entered four classes in Las Vegas. Steele, San Clemente, Calif., will be racing for his Desert Assassins team in the marquee SCORE Trophy-Truck division, Class 1-2/1600, Class 7SX as well as SCORE Lite.

Hawaii's popular Alan Pflueger, who has two career SCORE Trophy-Truck race wins, has entered his No. 28 Chevy Silverado in this event for the first time.

NASCAR team owner/driver Robby Gordon, Charlotte, N.C., will spend his weekend off from the Nextel Cup series by returning to his racing roots by driving the No. 83 Chevy CK1500 SCORE Trophy-Truck in Las Vegas.  Gordon, the 1996 SCORE Trophy-Truck season point champion, has five career SCORE Trophy-Truck race wins and annually races in both the Tecate SCORE Baja 500 (which he was the overall winner of in 2005) and in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
