The dirt will be flying at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway when hundreds of IMCA Modifieds and Northern SportsMods gather together for the 19th annual event Nov. 9-12.
More than 200 racers competed in the 2015 event, and this year's numbers are expected to be comparable. Much work has been done on the half-mile oval in recent months, with 120 loads of new dirt added to the track in an effort to improve conditions for this year's race.
Lucas Schott of Chatfield, Minn., won last year's Duel and a check for $7,777.77 after crossing the line first in the 40-lap IMCA Modifieds event. Schott started from the pole and led early before giving up the race lead to Jordan Grabouski of Beatrice, Neb., on lap 14. Grabouski pulled away from Schott before suffering right-front suspension damage, allowing Schott to regain the lead with 11 laps remaining.
Action begins on Wednesday, Nov. 9, with a practice session beginning at 4 p.m., with heat races B-mains and qualifying features following on Thursday, Nov. 10. More heat races B-mains and qualifying features are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11, and the event culminates with last-chance, young guns and legends races along with a 25-lap IMCA Northern SportMod Main Event and the 40-lap IMCA Modified Duel in the Desert Main Event.
