The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's 10-race Wicked HP Championship Drag racing Series features a points fund in excess of $12,000.

All four Sunday races are part of a two-day weekend doubleheader and will guarantee the winner of both Pro and Super Pro at least $1,000 to win if that racer also competed in the Saturday event.

Special events on the schedule include the first-ever NHRA State Championship event, which will be contested on Saturday, May 8.  The popular King-of-the-Track event, which pits the 2009 track champions against the May 8 event winners, will take place on Sunday, May 9.

The Wicked HP Series will also be showcased on Saturday, Aug. 21, as part of the Back-to-School Bash Thrill Show, which will include the return of the Formula Drift Championship Series, Jet Cars, the All-American Fuel Dragster Association and the return of Bigfoot, the original Monster Truck.

The series will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 12, with the National Dragster Challenge.

"Every effort was made this year to accommodate both local and out-of-town racers," said Chris Blair, LVMS' vice president of racing operations. "We tried to properly space the events while also working closely with other tracks to avoid the multiple NHRA National and Division 7 events in this region."

The Wicked HP Championship Drag Racing Series awards track championship titles to competitors in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle classes. The top four finishers in each of the point classes also will earn a berth in the NHRA Pacific Division Race of Champions.  In 2009, Carl Cannavo of N. Las Vegas won the Race of Champions and the NHRA Pacific Division Championship title to earn a berth in the Summit National Championship Event at Pomona (Calif.) Raceway as part of the NHRA World Finals.
