NHRA Summit Race of Champions at Fallon, Nev.:

Scott Macheal and Leo Shaver both took wins for the team from Las Vegas in the Sportsman and Motorcycle classes respectively. Macheal tripped the clocks at 13.028 seconds at 94.87 mph with his '63 Polara in the final round against Mike Lang of Fullerton, Calif., who covered the quarter-mile in 12.419 seconds at 107.84.

"That was great," gasped Machael, trying to catch his breath after the win. "The car's running great. I didn't change a thing; I just wanted to run consistent."

Shaver captured the Motorcycle class with a win over Phillip Nasca of Citrus Heights, Calif., with a run of 10.250 at 128.68 mph to Nasca's 9.664, 125.76

The Race of Champions is a race within a race held in conjunction with the NHRA Pacific Division Summit Racing Series Finals this weekend in Fallon, Nev., at Top Gun Raceway. Final time trials were also held today for the Summit Series which will begin eliminations Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

Winner: Scott Machael (Las Vegas) '63 Polara 13.028 sec./94.87 mph

Runner-up: Mike Lang (Fullerton, Calif.) '56 Chevy 12.419, sec./107.83 sec.

Winner: Leo Shaver (Las Vegas) '87 Ninja 10.250 sec./128.68 mph

Runner-up: Phillip Nasca (Citrus Heights, Calif.) '02 Kawasaki 9.664 sec./125.76 mph


Nick Ariotti of Las Vegas also reached the final round of Sportsman competition at the NHRA Pacific Division Summit Racing Series Finals over the weekend at Fallon, Nev.
