Over 900 racers to participate in

NHRA Division 7 Lucas Oil Series Finals

Oct. 31-Nov. 3 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Just days after the successful running of the second annual NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals, The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will present another drag racing spectacular as it plays host to the NHRA Division 7 Lucas Oil Series Finals Presented By Short Line Express -- and the conclusion of Pomona, Calif., Lucas Oil Series event -- all in one weekend, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3.  Over 950 cars and motorcycles are scheduled to compete.

The Pomona NHRA Lucas Oil Series event attracted over 780 cars and motorcycles, but was unable to finish due to a strict local curfew.  NHRA officials have moved the remaining portion of Pomona's event to Las Vegas, and will complete the event prior to The Strip's Division 7 finale.

The conclusion of the Pomona event will be blended into the previously scheduled Test 'n' Tune session of Thursday, Oct. 31.  The remaining 106 cars from Pomona will take to the track at 7:30 a.m. and will conduct their elimination runs in conjunction with the test session.  The Pomona race and the LVMS test session are scheduled to conclude at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The LVMS Division 7 event will feature Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Motorcycle and Super Eliminator categories.  As an added attraction, this year's event also will feature the NHRA Top Comp World Finals -- the first time this popular class has participated in the NHRA Pacific Division (Div. 7).

Racers who competed in the Oct. 24-27 NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals and stay over to participate in the Lucas Oil event will be allowed to leave their rigs in the pits and will have a special sign-in window open to them on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon.

"While we are disappointed that the incredible Pomona event wasn't completed due to curfew restrictions, we are happy that NHRA officials made the choice to complete the race at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway," said Chris Blair, LVMS' director of drag racing operations. "Our NHRA Lucas Oil Series event already is second only to the U.S. Nationals (at Indianapolis) in overall car count and participant enthusiasm.  With the NHRA Divisional and National Lucas Oil Series point standings coming down to two separate points races at the same facility on the same weekend, this could be one of the most dramatic weekends in the history of NHRA sportsman drag racing."

Despite the increase in car count, the completion of the Pomona event will not affect the number of runs Test 'n' Tune participants will receive on October 31.
