Results for May 10 event of the 2003 Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series and Short Line Express Jr. Dragster Series

at The Strip at LVMS

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway finally caught a break from the weather as temperatures in the high 60s ¿ minus the gale-force winds of late ¿ paved the way for some great quarter-mile and eighth-mile drag-racing action Saturday.

Ron Landram, whose '67 Camaro is aptly named "Eazy Money," scored $850 for winning the final round of Super Pro competition.  It was the Las Vegas resident's first Super Pro victory of the 2003 Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series.  Landram also took over the points lead in the Super Pro category.

Defending Motorcycle champion Leo Shaver performed his rendition of "deja vu all over again" with yet another two-wheeled victory.  Alfred Sweeting claimed the Pro trophy, Bill Dudley won yet another Sport Compact title and Roger Keller aced the final round of Street competition.  Dudley had a particularly good night: winning his class, the combined Street/Sport Compact Run-for-the-Money and a gift certificate from the Mayan Inn.

Jerry's Nugget Casino Reaction Time Bonus Awards went to Dave Phillips (Motorcycle), Sandra Darby (Sport Compact), Paul Wong (Street), Jason Dawson (Super Pro) and Robin Harris (Pro).  The award goes to the driver with the best reaction time on a winning run during the first round of competition.

On Saturday afternoon, the Short Line Express NHRA Jr. Dragsters took center stage.  Kyle Glenn of Kingman, Ariz., won the Thunder class while Las Vegas' Ty Sanders claimed the Lightning division.  Rookie honors went to Nick Marchese.  Although he earned No. 1 Qualifier status Saturday morning, Tristan Craig's winning streak was halted at two in the Thunder Division.

The Strip at LVMS is dark next week and will return with three-night Memorial Day weekend dragfest: Titan Auto Insurance Midnight Mayhem on Friday and a two-day PSCA show on Saturday and Sunday.
