Scelzi to debut new HEMI Oakley Dodge Funny Car at The Strip at LVMS Jan. 29;

Force, Pedregon, Dixon, Bazemore, Capps also scheduled to test

NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series driver Gary Scelzi will debut his all-new HEMI Oakley Dodge Funny Car at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway¿s third annual Drag Racing Blast-Off, Jan. 29-Feb.1.  Scelzi will embark from Don Schumacher Racing's Indianapolis race shops on a Dodge-sponsored promotional tour en route to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for pre-season testing Jan. 29-31.

"We're really excited about Dodge and Mopar promoting the Hemi," said Scelzi, of Fresno, Calif., who holds the Funny Car national top speed record of 329.18 mph, set in 2003 in the Oakley Time Bomb Dodge Stratus. "We have two brand-new race cars. We're going to be working with both cars under different conditions, to see which car works the best in the heat and which car works the best in the cold. It's possible that you actually might need different cars for hot, slippery race tracks than you do for cold, sticky race tracks."

Whit Bazemore, driver of the Matco Tools Iron Eagle Dodge Stratus Funny Car, is Scelzi¿s teammate at Schumacher Racing and also will test at The Strip beginning Jan. 29.

"It's always a great to be back at a race track and great to get back in the car. And I'm really looking forward to Vegas and that first test session.  We have some new stuff on the car. It's fun to try new things and it's important to try new components and get them ironed out and see where we stand relative to everyone else.  The track is awesome there. It has some elevation, but it's still a very fast race track. It's an ideal place to test.¿

Defending NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Funny Car champion Tony Pedregon will debut his new Quaker State Pontiac at The Strip¿s preseason test. Pedregon formerly drove for John Force and now is teamed with brother Cruz, also an NHRA Funny Car champion.

NHRA professional teams registered to test include: Scelzi, Bazemore, 12-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force, Eric Medlen (newest addition to the Force team), defending NHRA Top Fuel Dragster champion Larry Dixon, Ron Capps, Tommy Johnson Jr., Jerry Toliver, Gary Densham, Jim Head, K.C. Spurlock, Arley Langlo, Ashley Force (Top Alcohol Dragster) and Las Vegas' Duane Shields.

The four-day test session is open to the public.  Adult admission is $20 per day or $50 for a four-day pass.  Children 6-12 are $6 per day or $12 for a four-day pass.
