Johnsons quickest, fastest (so far) in

final NHRA preseason testing at The Strip

With the 2004 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season opener in Pomona, Calif.,  just a few days away, a number of pro teams took one final opportunity to test at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before heading to the K&N Filters NHRA Winternationals.

Topping the Pro Stock list were Warren and Kurt Johnson.  Warren¿s GM Performance Parts Chevrolet hit a top speed of 200.56 mph.  Son Kurt, driving the ACDelco Cavalier, turned in the quickest E.T. so far: 6.873 sec.  Kurt is shaking down a brand-new Jerry Haas chassis.

"We want to win this championship for ACDelco and Chevrolet, so we made a few moves," said Kurt.  "Last year was certainly a good one, but it's behind us.  We're now looking to build on the experience, and take that final step.  We have the right parts to get it done - the right car, the right sponsors, as well as a great crew both at the track and working back in the shop in Georgia.  We just have to execute, producing the power and consistency necessary to put us on top."

Testing will continue until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17.  Due to construction in the pit area for the upcoming NASCAR event, the test session is not open to the public.

The NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series returns to The Strip at LVMS April 1-4 for the fifth annual NHRA Nationals.
