Gene Winfield to appear at inaugural

Rockabilly Rod Reunion November 20 at The Strip

All-day show features hot rods, kool customs, kulture and music

Car-customizing legend Gene Winfield will appear at the inaugural Rockabilly Rod Reunion at The Strip Saturday, Nov. 20 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.  Winfield bring one of his many custom creations as an added attraction to his booth.  Among Winfield¿s famous cars are the Jade Idol, Solar Scene and Strip Star, not to mention numerous 1949-50-era Mercurys.  Gene also endeared himself to model car builders in the 1960s as a customizing consultant for AMT, the era¿s dominant manufacturer.  Winfield's cars graced hundreds of car magazines throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

In the spirit of the long-running Paso Robles Car Show, Primernationals and Ratfink Reunion, the inaugural Rockabilly Rod Reunion brings together hot rods (both primered and painted), custom cars, vendors, followers of the kustom culture lifestyle and great music for a day of high-octane fun in Las Vegas.

The show is open to any pre-1963 car or motorcycle.  Entries will be judged in 20 classes with trophies and jackets to the winners.  As many as 100 cars are expected as host car club Road Devils have gone into overdrive recruiting wild machines of both the four and two-wheel variety.

The Cadillac Angels of Santa Barbara, Calif., will take the main stage in the early afternoon for a concert, featuring cuts from their latest CD, ¿Illinois Boy.¿

Joining Winfield as a special guest is Tom Daniel, Rod & Custom Magazine artist and creator of more than 85 popular rods, including the wildly-popular Red Baron, which sold more than one million model car kits for Monogram Models and was the hit of the 1968 custom car show circuit. (

World-famous drag racing artist Kenny Youngblood, creatir of the RRR's t-shirt art, also will appear at the show.   

Actress and famed retro pin-up model Heidi Van Horne ( will grace the

show and also will assist in the judging of the $500-to-win pin-up girl contest.  Heidi ( recently starred on the NBC TV show ER and has appeared on many kulture magazine covers.

At 6 p.m., the drag strip will rumble to life with the Pacific Street Car Association¿s 200 mph doorslammers and the retro floppers of the California Independent Funny Car Association.

Adult admission is just $20 for an all-day, all-night ticket (9 a.m.-11 p.m.).
