NHRA King of the Track Pajama Party Classic at The Strip July 10

Jerry¿s Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series event

beats the summer heat

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will battle the heat of summer with one of its most popular bracket races of the 2004 season on Saturday, July 10, with the NHRA King of the Track Pajama Party Classic. The seventh race of the Jerry's Nugget Championship Series is the only LVMS bracket-racing event with a late starting time with early-morning conclusion.

"Trying to host a race in the middle of the desert in the heat of July can be a challenge for racers, fans and officials," said Chris Blair, LVMS¿ senior director of drag racing operations. "The Pajama Party Classic allows fans and racers to beat the heat and proves that Las Vegas truly is a 24-hour town."

In addition to cash, contingency awards and trophies, the winner in each of the five drag racing classes of the Pajama Party Classic will receive a special edition Las Vegas Motor Speedway bathrobe. The event also features the final runoff for the NHRA King of the Track competition, which will award a coveted NHRA ¿Wally¿ trophy to the overall winner.  The ¿Wally¿ is the NHRA¿s equivalent to the Motion Picture Academy of America¿s ¿Oscar.¿

Fans who wear pajamas will receive free admission and the opportunity to win tickets to a future Las Vegas Motor Speedway event.  Las Vegas DJ Joe Pici will be play music in the Club Nitro midway from Midnight to 4 a.m.

"This event always shows just how much fun our racers, fans and officials have at The Strip," Blair added. "Most of the teams plan post-race breakfasts and early-morning tailgate parties. It's one of those things that can only happen in Vegas."
