NHRA Funny Car champions and Top Fuel stars highlight

The Strip at LVMS¿ Last Chance Test Session Feb. 4-6

Many of the NHRA¿s top POWERade Drag Racing Series Top Fuel and Funny Car teams will participate in this weekend¿s Last Chance Test Session at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  The event, which runs Friday through Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. each day, is the final opportunity for NHRA teams to prepare for the start of the 2005 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series in Pomona, Calif.

"Our opening test session two weeks ago was a tremendous success and produced some incredible numbers,' said Chris Blair, LVMS¿ senior director of drag racing operations.  ¿The weather forecast and the great field of cars committed to attend should produce some of the fastest testing times and speeds ever run at The Strip."

The Funny Car entry list includes 2003 champion Tony Pedregon, 1992 champion Cruz Pedregon, 2004 U.S. Nationals winner Gary Densham, Bob Gilbertson, Tim Wilkerson, Jim Head, Tony Bartone, Todd Patton and Jeff Arend.  The Top Fuel entry list includes 2004 Bud Shootout champion David Grubnic, Doug Kalitta, David Baca, Scott Kalitta, John Smith, Cory McClenathan, Scott Weis and Bruce Litton.

"I'm very excited about the field of cars that will be on hand for the final pre-season test of 2005," continued Blair. "Many of these teams already have made some impressive runs at other facilities and now are ready to make record-setting runs on arguably the greatest racing surface in all of drag racing. We should see elapsed time and mile-per-hour records shattered."

In addition to NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car categories, the Last Chance Test Session also will include Pro Stock, Pro Modifieds AHDRA Top Fuel Harley-Davidson, PSCA Pro Street, Alcohol Dragster, Alcohol Funny Car and an assortment of NHRA Sportsman and VRA nostalgia racers.

Spectator gates open at 8 a.m. each day with the first Pro session scheduled at 10 a.m.  Adult admission each day is $20 and each ticket includes pit access.
