Naffziger claims Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series Super Pro finale

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway held its 2005 NHRA King of the Track event Saturday night and John Phlegar of Las Vegas is the new titleholder. Phlegar, driving his Super Pro-class 1972 Chevelle, defeated former Motorcycle champion Leo Shaver for the coveted NHRA "Wally" trophy. The Oscar-like statuette is named for National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) founder Wally Parks. Phlegar also is The Strip's defending Super Pro champion.

Chris Naffziger of Las Vegas defeated Becky Phlegar to claim Super Pro final-round honors in Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series competition. Other Jerry's Nugget Series winners included: Charlie Boyd (Pro), Walter Shupe (Street), Leo Shaver (Motorcycle) and Bill Dudley (Sport Compact).

Jerry’s Nugget Reaction Time Bonus Awards were won by Bill Dudley (Sport Compact), Kyle Hirschi (Street), Bob Coulter (Pro), Kahea Woods (Motorcycle) and Bob DeFrancesco (Super Pro). The award is won by posting the best reaction time on a winning run during the first round of competition. All final-round winners in the Jerry’s Nugget Series also received gift certificates to Uncle Angelo’s Pizza Joint, located inside Jerry’s Nugget Casino.

Saturday morning’s Meadow Gold NHRA Jr. Dragster Series Presented By Short Line Express Markets races were won by Luke Winters (Thunder) and Kayla Sewell (Lightning).
