Naffziger, Ariotti, Irving, Shaver, Dudley score final-round wins at Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series opener at LVMS

 

            The 2006 Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series' season-opener was held Saturday night, April 1, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

            Defending Super Pro champion Chris Naffziger picked up where he left off by defeating Joe Niswonger in the final round.

Defending Sport Compact champion Bill Dudley scored an easy win when his sole opponent broke before the first round of eliminations.

Nick Ariotti kicked off a relationship with a new sponsor - Biffy.com - by winning the Pro finale over Robin Harris.

Former Motorcycle champion Leo Shaver defeated Kahea Woods for two-wheel honors.

John Irving of Boulder City won the Sportsman (formerly known as the Street class) final over Paul Wong.

Jerry's Nugget Reaction Time Bonus Awards were won by: Lisa King (Pro), Bob Shannon (Super Pro), Kahea Woods (Motorcycle), Paul Wong (Sportsman) and Bill Dudley (Sport Compact).

Ken Rees of Las Vegas won the Las Vegas Corvette Club final over Pat Ackeret.

The Meadow Gold NHRA Jr. Dragster Series Presented By Short Line Express Markets also opened its 2006 season Saturday. Ty Sanders defeated Luke Winters for Lightning honors while Lacey Powers outran Lyndzi Powers for the Thunder Trophy.
