Gladys Knight once sang, "It's All Over But The Shouting," and in some NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series pits at Las Vegas, the shouting will be a little louder than others. Pro qualifying for the seventh annual NHRA Nationals now is complete and the press room still is buzzing about the early departure of Tony Pedregon.

That's correct: Tony Pedregon will watch this one from the sidelines on Sunday.  The former NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Funny Car champion failed to make the show. His best recorded pass was 4.878 sec./297.88 mph, which placed him 17th in a 16-car field.  Pedregon made a quarter-mile run of 4.79 sec. on Friday night, which would have placed him squarely in the field, but the pass was disqualified when his car did not stop at the scales to have the car weighed by NHRA officials.  The rules infraction caused Tony to suffer his first DNQ since 2001. Brother Frank Pedregon also struggled Friday and Saturday. His best pass of 8.409 sec. stuck him dead last in an entry list of 23 Funny Cars.

Friday's No. 1 Funny Car Qualifier, Robert Hight, remained at the top of the heap and will face Tony Bartone in the first round of eliminations Sunday morning.

Tony Schumacher, No. 1 Qualifier in Friday’s Top Fuel Dragster time trials, also led the parade today and will oppose Alan Bradshaw of Odessa, Texas in the first round. Rod Fuller of Las Vegas qulaified 10th and will face Doug Kalitta in Round 1.

Greg Anderson earned his fifth Las Vegas Motor Speedway No. 1 Qualifier status with a pass of 6.787 sec./203.31 mph. It also marked the 44th No. 1 Qualifier award of his career.
