John and Ashley Force are becoming synonymous with the phrase, "Like father, like daughter." Ashley, the 23-year old daughter of the 13-time world champion Funny Car driver John Force, took another giant step in following her famous father at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Monday. Ashley, who competes regularly in the Top Alcohol category of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, set a personal best of 315 miles per hour while testing a Funny Car owned by her father. The younger Force took three runs during a test session Monday, first going 800 feet, then 1,000 feet twice. It was the third run at 1,000 feet where Force hit 315 mph. "The quickest I'd ever been before that was in my A/Fuel dragster at 275 mph," said Force. "So it was a pretty good jump from that." Force says she felt more excited about the fact that she was able to make a run at 1,000 feet for the first time than the 315 mph mark. "Probably the best thing about it was getting over that hump," said Force. "I had never gone the distance were I could know the full speed, and I didn't know what to expect. Now I'm not so nervous wondering what could happen." Force says that the biggest adjustment for her moving from 275 to 315 mph was being able to see the track during the run. "I was having problems after my launch about 200 and 300 feet into it finding where I was," said Force. "My dad told me if you can just get through that area where the clutch lets in, it will clear up and it did. You could feel that you were going faster, but your vision cleared up too." Force says that though 315 mph is fast enough to get her a Funny Car license, she's in no hurry to make the switch from Top Alcohol just yet. "I don't mind taking my time," said Force. "I think its better. I still need to make some more runs and I don't mind just taking it slow." Ashley Force continues testing her Funny Car Tuesday at The Strip.
