Powers, Verlingo share Short Line Express Markets

The sixth round of the 10-race 2006 Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series now is history and some new and different faces will receive winner's checks in the mail Tuesday.  Greg Hicks of N. Las Vegas defeated Bob DeFrancesco of Las Vegas in the Super Pro finale.  Kyle Allen of N. Las Vegas outran Ted Logan's Vega for the Pro category victory while Utah's Ruston Peterson cleaned house in the Sportsman ranks.  Rick Newport of West Valley, Utah, won the final round of Motorcycle eliminations, defeating Leo Shaver of Las Vegas.

John Phlegar won the so-called "Duck Race" (a consolation event for racers eliminated in the first or second round) and Pat Ackert of Las Vegas won the Las Vegas Corvette Club finale.

On Saturday morning, Nicholas Verlingo of Alta Loma, Calif., won the Lightning division and Lyndzi Powers of Boulder City scored the Thunder division win in Short Line Express Markets NHRA Jr. Dragster competition.

On Friday night, during Show 'n' Go Friday competition, the following racers won their respective final rounds: Ashleigh Ozuna (High School), John Irving (Pure Stock), Dan Reaume (Open Comp) and Jim Naffziger (Super Quick).
