Tonight's Test 'n' Tune at The Strip cancelled due to high winds; BFGoodrich Mayhem will go on as scheduled

LAS VEGAS - Tonight's Test 'n' Tune session, originally scheduled from 6-10 p.m. at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, has been cancelled due to high winds and dust storms.

The BFGoodrich Midnight Mayhem event scheduled for 10 p.m. will take place.  Racer and Spectator gates will open at 9 p.m. with street-legal racing from 10 p.m.-2 a.m.

"The wind and dust makes racing a high-horsepower race car nearly impossible this evening," said Chris Blair, LVMS senior director of drag racing operations.  "Our number-one priority is to provide the sportsman and professional racers that test at LVMS on a regular basis with conditions comparable to, or better than, those they would find at an NHRA national event.  The strong cross-winds and blowing dust would cause difficulties for a race car specifically built for drag racing."

BFGoodrich Midnight Mayhem - the five-year-old program designed to provide a safe alternative to illegal street racing - will take place as scheduled with participant gates and tech inspection open from 9 p.m.-Midnight, with racing from 10 p.m.-2 a.m.  Midnight Mayhem is open only to street-legal cars that are licensed, insured and driven to the track.

Participants who will be competing in Saturday morning's Short Line Express Markets Jr. Dragster Series event and Saturday night's Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series meet will be permitted to bring their trailers to the track this evening.  Credential sales and trailer parking for Saturday's events will take place on Friday evening from 7-8 p.m.
