Team LVMS captures Track Manager's Challenge Race of Champions award, National Dragster Team Spirt Award and second overall at NHRA Div. 7 E.T. Finals in Bakersfield

Team Las Vegas, representing The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, did an outstanding job representing "America's Greatest Drag Strip" with two major titles and an overall second-place finish at the 2006 NHRA Pacific Division E.T. Finals, held Oct. 12-15 at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif.

"Team Las Vegas, which was led by captains Grace Creason and Jean Phlegar, put forth an incredible effort at Bakersfield," said Chris Blair, LVMS' Senior Director of Drag Racing Operations.  "Our Race of Champions team took the overall Track Manager's Challenge title.  Our entire team and their families pitched in to capture the National Dragster Team Spirit Award and we placed second overall in the weekend standings."

The Track Manager's Challenge title was based on the performance of participants in the 2006 Race of Champions.  Team Las Vegas took the title based on consistent performances by all 13 Race of Champions members and was led by James Sasser, who finished runner-up in the Super Pro category.

The National Dragster Team Spirit Award was based on the overall sportsmanship, enthusiasm and support of each of the 18 teams. The award was voted by the NHRA Certification Team, track operators, event photographers and announcers.

Team Las Vegas finished second overall in the team standings with only 44 racers (out of a possible 64 team openings).  Team Las Vegas finished second overall to sister Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI, Inc.) track Infineon Raceway (located in Sonoma, Calif.).

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway would like to thank all of the racers who participated in the event as well as captains Phlegar and Creason for their outstanding support.  In addition, special thanks are in order to Jerry's Nugget Casino for their sponsorship of the weekly bracket program.  The Strip at LVMS also would like to thank Nevada Beverage Co., Outwest Meats, Graphic Impressions and Tommy Babcock for their contributions to the team program.
