Before hitting the quarter-mile at 300 mph, several of the NHRA's top drivers will be facing a different kind of pressure -- at the poker table, and for a good cause. The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities will hold its third annual "Cards for Kids" Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Cannery Hotel & Casino. The charity event will kick off the NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Drivers will square off against each other and fans from across the country in the charity event. Currently set to participate are Brandon Bernstein, Cory McClenathan, Rod Fuller, Ron Capps, Melanie Troxel, Tommy Johnson, Jr., Dave Grubnic, Morgan Lucas, Eric Medlen, Greg Anderson, J.R. Todd, Dave Connolly and Jack Beckman. Of the 13 drivers taking to the felt, seven are in the top 10 in points in the Top Fuel Dragster category; three are in the top 10 in the Funny Car class and two in the top 10 in the Pro Stock series. "We hope to take our win at Virginia last week and parlay it into another win on The Cannery's poker tables," said McClenathan, the highest-finishing NHRA driver at last year's tournament (he placed third overall). Registration and check-in begins at 6 p.m., with the tournament starting at 7 p.m. Entry fee (buy-in) is $250 and players will receive $1,000 in tournament chips. A total prize purse of $5,000 will be up for grabs at the event, with a guaranteed first-place prize of $1,400. For entries and information, please contact Janae Melvin at (702) 632-8242 or .
