Dave Danish passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, after suffering a severe heart attack on May 11.

"The first time I ever met Dave Danish was a little over 10 years ago when he spotted me wearing my NHRA Division Director's shirt at the airport in Reno as I was arriving for the P.R.I. show.  He introduced himself and offered me a ride to the convention center.  That's just the type of person that Dave was - he went out of his way to meet people and then help them," said Chris Blair, Las Vegas Motor Speedway's Vice President of Racing Operations.

"After that initial meeting we stayed in contact with one another and eventually became fellow track operators in NHRA's Division 7.   I had a great deal of respect for Dave because he was one of the people who kept his integrity and love of the sport ahead of everything else.  Dave was one of the true good guys in this business and all of us here at LVMS will miss him."

Dave and his wife Kathy managed the drag strip at Fontana, Calif., for the past three years. Dave worked with Mike Yurick to relocate and build the new Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway, as it is now known.  Dave and Kathy were scheduled to take over the reins at Southwestern Intl. Raceway in Tucson this week.  They had previously operated the track for several years before coming to Fontana and the new owners had asked Dave and Kathy to come back and run it for them.   Dave started out as a tech inspector at Indianapolis Raceway Park, then went on to become NHRA's Division 3 Tech Director and eventually worked several years as the NHRA National Tech Director.  Dave and Kathy just celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.

Danish is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughters Wende Enscoe and Sheri Lopez, and two grandchildren. Services are pending.
