Las Vegas' Kayla Sewell raised more than $3,000 for Feed the Children in her first individual fundraising event, which was held Aug. 11 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Funds were raised through pledges from individuals and businesses. Sewell raised money for each round she completed during the Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series event. She completed four rounds.

The $3,000 raised was just shy of the amount needed to achieve her goal of a truck load of food, which consists of 400 boxes of non-perishable food items, 400 boxes of personal hygiene kits and two bulk pallets of snacks - enough to supply 400 families of four for approximately one week. Sewell and her family are looking to hold another event in the spring in order to attain her goal.

"This was an amazing experience," Sewell said. "I really enjoyed passing out the food that morning and getting a feel for what takes place during these food drops. I am really happy that we were able to raise more than $3,000. It was a great way to start things off. I look forward to making this event bigger and better each year."
