Rick Newport of West Valley, Utah, is the new King of the Track at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Newport won tonight's King-of-the-Track finale over another motorcycle rider, something that never has occurred before at The Strip at LVMS.

Eligible participants in the King-of-the-Track eliminations included: 2007 Super Pro champion Chris Naffziger, 2007 Pro champion Bob Moudree, 2007 Sportsman champion Scott Parsons, 2007 Motorcycle champion Leo Shaver, Super Pro wild card winner Joe Niswonger, Pro wild card winner Dan Reaume, Sportsman wild card winner Mike Niswonger and Motorcycle wild card winner Newport.
Newport met Shaver in the King-of-the-Track finale and beat him, 8.900 sec./144.32 mph to 10.549 sec./112.44 mph.  Newport also turned in the better reaction time, .024 to Shaver's .066.

Not to be outdone, Newport (on a Suzuki GSXR5) also won the Motorcycle final in the evening's Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series points meet, defeating Mark Moore (2007 Suzuki) of Las Vegas.

Bob "Stu" Defrancesco (Las Vegas) defeated Greg Hicks (N. Las Vegas) for Super Pro honors.

Bob Moudree (Las Vegas) defeated Mike Burris in the Pro final.

In the Sportsman final, Jon D. Irving (Boulder City) topped Sal Cachia of Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Corvette Association final went to Mike Sollish of Las Vegas.  He defeated Greyson Pendry, also of Las Vegas.
