Several NHRA Pro Stock teams, including those of Greg Anderson, Jason Line and V Gaines, tested today at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in preparation for the Oct. 28-31 NHRA Las Vegas Nationals. The Las Vegas event is the next-to-last on the 2010 Full Throttle Drag Racing Series championship trail and is crucial to winning the championship.

In a year where the KB Racing team has faced adversity on and off the track, from team owner Ken Black’s stroke to a fire at Anderson’s home – not to mention an uncharacteristically-slow start to their season – they somehow come into Las Vegas as the NHRA Pro Stock points leaders, looking to secure their first championship of the Countdown era. In fact, should they take home the title, it promises to be the most memorable of all their championships.

Anderson and teammate Line combined to win the last four Pro Stock championships before the institution of the Countdown format in 2007. Since then, they have, by their own admission, struggled with the playoff format, despite Greg being the runner-up in all three Countdown years.  Although this rule has allowed him to come into this race as the points leader, he remains skeptical of the format.  Still, he looks to finally use it to his advantage and capture that fourth title.

Greg has put on a tremendous charge in the last few weeks, appearing in three consecutive final rounds (Charlotte, Dallas and Reading), winning twice (Charlotte and Dallas).

Greg now leads the Full Throttle championship standings by 36 points (the closest margin of any of the four pro classes), a 140-point turnaround from where he stood after the first race of the NHRA's Countdown playoff in Indianapolis. He has accomplished this resurgence behind the wheel of a two-year-old race car that just a month ago had been relegated to breaking in tires back at the KB Racing shop in Mooresville, N.C., bringing it back into service for the Charlotte race.

Greg’s return to form also can be traced back to June, when he brought co-crew chief Tommy Utt (who was released by Roger Brogdon after Englishtown) on board.

Although his chances for the championship are fairly slim, Jason still is a valuable wingman for Greg, especially now that they are once again using similar chassis. (In fact, it was the progress the team made with Jason’s car that prompted the switch to the old car).

KB Racing will be welcoming back team owner Ken Black at the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals. The entire shop will be making the trip to Las Vegas for the race (with the non-road crew personnel paying their own way).
