The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2011. At each track, the NHRA plays host to a drag racing legend. The resident golden-era celebrity acts as the event’s grand marshal, signs autographs each day and participates in a track walk for charity.

Roland Leong, owner and builder of the world-famous line of “Hawaiian” Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars, will serve as the grand marshal for the 12th annual NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (April 1-3).

Leong will lead the Speedway Children’s Charities track walk at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Fans will have the opportunity to walk the Las Vegas quarter mile with Leong by donating just $10 to the children’s charity. Registration is available online at or fans may visit the SCC booth at the drag strip beginning Friday, April 1.

The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series brings the biggest names in professional drag racing – including John Force, Tony Pedregon and Tony Schumacher – to The Strip at LVMS twice each year. The NHRA Nationals features Top Fuel Dragsters, Funny Cars, Pro Stocks, Pro Mods, Top Alcohol Dragsters, Top Alcohol Funny Cars and Sportsman racers.

Making a difference in a child’s life is the focus of Speedway Children’s Charities. SCC strives to do this in collaboration with the non-profit organizations it supports nationwide. Individually, SCC’s local chapters identify the needs of children in their communities and award grants to organizations that address them.
