Sam Schmidt Motorsports held a Menards Infiniti Pro Series (IPS) and Indy Racing League (IRL) test session at the 1.5-mile superspeedway at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Tuesday.
Pat Rummerfield, a fully recovered spinal cord injury quadriplegic, was among the five drivers testing. Rummerfield, who was injured in an automobile accident in 1974, tested an IPS car in hopes to partner with Schmidt and race for spinal cord research.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway account executive Craig Cochran has been chosen as the recipient of this year¿s Jim Duncan Award. The honor, which is named for the long-time Lowe¿s Motor Speedway sales executive, awards the top salesperson within Speedway Motorsports Incorporated. The award is voted on by the general managers of all SMI properties.

The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities held its annual Grant Distribution and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The Las Vegas chapter presented checks in the total sum of $250,000 to 41 local children's charities at the ceremony.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway¿s 30-second television commercial promoting the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 and Sam¿s Town 300 has been recognized for an Electronic Media Award. The award, for best television commercial, is presented by Working In Communications and honors outstanding achievement in local radio, television and website media, as well as achievement in the Southern Nevada broadcasting community.

For the second time in the past three years, the NASCAR Winston Cup champion used Las Vegas Motor Speedway as a catalyst for the title. Matt Kenseth, who clinched the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup championship Sunday in Rockingham, N.C., posted his only victory of the season on March 2 in the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. In 2001, Jeff Gordon won his first race of the season in Las Vegas en route to his fourth Winston Cup title.

Four-time NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon will appear in Las Vegas Motor Speedway¿s SpeedZone Fan Hospitality Area during the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400/Sam¿s Town 300 NASCAR Weekend. Gordon, the 2001 winner of the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400, will appear on Saturday morning, March 6, prior to the Sam¿s Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series event. Other drivers will be announced over the next several weeks.

Brendan Gaughan of Las Vegas won tonight's Las Vegas 350 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. He also won the Bud Pole Award and led the most laps. Gaughan earned $46,700 for his victory and continues to lead the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points.

Three local drivers who compete at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway beat five NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers, two Speed Channel personalities and three local media members Thursday night.
The Bullring¿s Super Late Model rookie-of-the-year Spencer Clark, 16, won the 25-lap Inaugural Driver/Media Go-Kart race at Fast Lap Indoor Kart Center. Clark started in the rear of the 13-car field. He quickly maneuvered to the front of the pack with the Bullring¿s Semi-Pro Legends Cars champion Alex Haase and the Late Model rookie-of-the-year Travis Swalwell in tow. Clark took the lead from NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver David Starr on lap three after Starr experienced kart failure that took him out of the race. Clark held off Haase, 13, and Swalwell, 18, for the win.

Although local hero Brendan Gaughan is favored to win Saturday¿s Las Vegas 350 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, at least 1,500 children will be cheering for Californian Ricky Bogart. Bogart¿s sponsor, Washington Mutual, donated 1,500 admission tickets to The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children¿s Charities. The free tickets were distributed this week to St. Jude¿s Children¿s Ranch, Nellis AFB Youth Programs, Boys & Girls Club of Henderson and Boys & Girls Club of Las Vegas.

No matter what David Starr does in the rest of his racing career, few moments are likely to top taking the checkered flag last year in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It was truly a weekend of firsts for Starr and the Spears Motorsports team. Not only did Starr get his very first pole and his first win, he brought Wayne and Connie Spears their first victory in eight years of racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

The most successful NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver in Las Vegas Motor Speedway history has become the latest former NASCAR Winston Cup star to enter the Sept. 27 Las Vegas 350. Sprague holds virtually every Truck Series record at LVMS. In five career starts, he has two wins (1996 and 1998) and three runner-up finishes (1997, 1999 and 2001).

Even though this year¿s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is almost three weeks away, plans already are under way for the 2004 event. Speedway officials announced Tuesday that NASCAR¿s third-tier racing series will return to the 1.5-mile superspeedway on Sept. 25, 2004. This year¿s Las Vegas 350 is set for Saturday, Sept. 27.

David Starr left last year¿s Las Vegas 350 with a $43,200 winner¿s check and a big trophy. He probably felt like he had hit Megabucks. In the 66th start of Starr¿s career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the native of Houston held off eventual series champion Mike Bliss and posted the only win of his Truck racing career. It was also the first victory for his owners, Wayne and Connie Spears and the Spears Manufacturing Race Team.

Nevada¿s largest annual sports weekend will return to Las Vegas Motor Speedway March 5-7, 2004.
Again in 2004, the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 will be the third stop on the NASCAR Nextel Cup tour. The 2004 event will mark the seventh visit of NASCAR¿s most elite series to Las Vegas¿s 1.5-mile superspeedway.
The Sam¿s Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series event will precede the NASCAR Nextel Cup event on Saturday, March 6. Qualifying for both races will be held Friday, March 5. The O¿Reilly World of Outlaws will return for two nights of action on the speedway¿s half-mile dirt oval March 4-5.

The fourth annual Bob & Mike's Birthday Bash was held Sunday, May 25, at Eldorado Park and was a benefit the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities. The event drew over 300 cars -¿ including hot rods, dragsters, street rods, classic cars, muscle cars and Monster Trucks -- and 3,000 spectators. The bash raised $10,600 for local children's causes.

For a few hours Thursday afternoon, hit country recording group Trick Pony traded in its guitars and cowboy hats for a racing helmet and a steering wheel. The group, which was among the nominees for five different Academy of Country Music Awards Wednesday night, spent the afternoon turning laps at over 150 miles per hour at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as part of the Driving 101 program.

The Champ Car World Series is heading to Europe next month, and two of its rookie drivers are using Las Vegas Motor Speedway to prepare for the May 11 race at Eurospeedway in Lausitz, Germany. Leading rookie of the year contender Mario Haberfeld and fellow rookie candidate Tiago Monteiro used LVMS¿ 1.5-mile superspeedway to get their first laps around an oval on Wednesday. Haberfeld, driving for MiJack/Conquest Motorsports, and Monteiro, driving for Fittipaldi-Dingman Racing, will conclude the two-day test on Thursday.

The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities' inaugural charity golf tournament, held Monday, March 31, at the Revere Golf Club at Sun City Anthem, raised $13,500 for the children of southern Nevada. Twenty foursomes participated in the event.

The UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway belongs to Roush Racing -- again. Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 17 DeWALT Tools Ford, took the lead on lap 236 and cruised to a whopping 9.104-second margin of victory over second-place finisher Dale Earnhardt Jr. Although the weather on Friday and Saturday wreaked havoc with schedules and competition, Sunday was perfect and the 140,000+ fans in attendance were treated to some good battles and anxious moments.

Joe Nemechek won today's Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, outdistancing a determined Kevin Harvick by 0.6 sec. at the finish line. The 200-lap Sam's Town 300 was halted for nearly an hour by rain, but the weather cleared, the track dried and racing resumed. Nemechek kept the field at bay in the closing laps while a spirited battle for top-five positions was waged behind him.

All reserved seats for the March 2 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 NASCAR Winston Cup Series event are sold out. Race fans who have not yet purchased tickets for the sixth annual event still may attend the Winston Cup race by purchasing a special $88 "Triple Play" package.
The Triple Play includes infield access for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400, a reserved seat for the March 1 Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series race and a general-admission seat for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event on Sept. 27.

The future looked bright for the man who finished fourth in Busch Series points last year. The 46-year-old veteran and his team were all set to come to Las Vegas to compete in the March 1 Sam's Town 300. While their trip west may still be in the cards, the odds just got longer. Mclaughlin's No. 03 Ford team, known as Angela's Motorsports, went bust two weeks ago, leaving the New Yorker without a ride for the 2003 season.
