The importance of Las Vegas Motor Speedway's annual stop on the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series schedule was emphasized Thursday by NASCAR's new testing rules. LVMS is one of just six tracks that will conduct tests for the Nextel Cup teams in 2006, according the standards announced by NASCAR. More than 40 teams are expected to converge on the 1.5-mile superspeedway Jan. 30, 31 and Feb. 1 for three days of testing in preparation for the March 12, 2006 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. "NASCAR based its decision on feedback from the race teams," said LVMS general manager Chris Powell. "To be one of just six tracks selected for testing for the 2006 season speaks volumes to the appeal of both our speedway and our city. This will be the seventh year of our Preseason Thunder, and we are happy to let these race teams use our facility to prepare for the 2006 season." LVMS will allow the public to view the practice sessions from the grandstand free of charge. NASCAR Busch Series teams are scheduled to test at LVMS Feb. 6-8 in preparation for the Sam's Town 300. Tickets to the NASCAR Weekend are on sale through the LVMS ticket office by calling 1-800-644-4444 or online at
