Clint Bowyer only has one full year of Busch Series racing under his belt, but the runner-up to Martin Truex Jr. for the Busch title in 2005 is ready to mix it up with the stars of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. Bowyer will join more than 40 other drivers at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Jan. 30-Feb. 1 for NASCAR Preseason Thunder Las Vegas as they prepare for the March 12 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. It will be the final tune-up before the start of the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup season. Bowyer also realizes this test will go a long way in determining his success this season. "If we go down to Daytona and are the fastest car at the test, we'd still go away with a lot of unknowns," said Bowyer. "If we go to Las Vegas and are the fastest car at that test, there's a lot of excitement being built within our team." Bowyer, who feels that testing at LVMS is bigger for the season than Daytona, says that success in testing will come from aero packages, not shocks and springs. "When you go to Vegas, to me, that's your first testament of what you've got for the year," said Bowyer. Downforce tracks make up the bulk of our schedule. We only race on superspeedways four times a year. The downforce tracks like Las Vegas are the ones where you have to be good." The public is invited to watch the test sessions free of charge each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets for the March 10-12 NASCAR Weekend are available by calling 1-800-644-4444 or logging on to Here is a tentative list of test dates and drivers: Jan. 30-31: Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Robby Gordon, Jeff Green, Kevin Harvick, Dale Jarrett, Travis Kvapil, Mark Martin, Jamie McMurray, Elliott Sadler, Hermie Sadler, Ken Schrader, Brent Sherman, Reed Sorenson, David Stremme, Martin Truex Jr. and Scott Wimmer.
