NASCAR Preseason Thunder Las Vegas has always been billed as one of the most important tests of the NASCAR Nextel Cup season. This year will be no different. Each team competing for the Nextel Cup is expected to converge on Las Vegas Motor Speedway Jan. 29-30 to get their first look at the new 20-degree banking on the 1.5-mile superspeedway. Only a handful of drivers have taken any laps around the speedway since the banking was increased from 12 degrees following the 2006 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle completed a Goodyear tire test in December, Jeremy Mayfield and David Reutimann competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and Kurt Busch made the ceremonial first laps last August. The speedway will allow race fans to watch both days of testing free of charge from the superspeedway grandstands. NASCAR Busch Series teams will test at LVMS Feb. 5-6. The Busch test also is open to the public.
