Statement from Las Vegas Motor Speedway General Manager Chris Powell on the death of NASCAR Vice Chairman Bill France Jr.

"Bill France Jr. was one of the key players in bringing NASCAR to Las Vegas," said Las Vegas Motor Speedway general manager Chris Powell. "Mr. France believed in Las Vegas as a racing city, and it was with his help that NASCAR's top stars came to Las Vegas for the inaugural NASCAR Nextel Cup event in 1998. Our prayers are with his family and the entire NASCAR community."
