One Toyota replaced another at the top of the heap as the first day of NASCAR's Preseason Thunder Las Vegas came to a close at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Las Vegas native Kyle Busch drove his M&M's Toyota to a lap of 29.415 sec./183.580 mph, just ahead of Tony Stewart's second-place effort of 29.601 sec./182.426 mph.

Denny Hamlin's No. 11A Toyota, fastest in the morning session, was 24th in the afternoon runs.
Busch, Hamlin and Stewart all drive Toyotas for Joe Gibbs Racing.  Gibbs' teams made the switch from Chevrolet to Toyota over the winter.

"We've been trying hard on these cars to get more grip in them," said Kyle.  "So far, everything has gone well. The guys have been digging in and working hard to make it faster. We are still learning and trying to make it better."

Kyle was asked how he was adapting to a new team and new manufacturer.

"You go to a race track and try to make the best of it.  I've got a great bunch of guys with Joe Gibbs Racing and the Toyota power underneath the hood.  It's important for us to come out and look good, and ultimately make Joe and (son) J.D. (Gibbs) look good for picking me.  This is still TRD's (Toyota Racing Development) motor package in this car - it isn't a Gibbs motor package - so I can only assume that we will come back here with more."

NASCAR Sprint Cup testing will resume Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. PST.
