Jeff Foster, a 34-year veteran of the drag racing community, has been named director of operations at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Foster, a native of Kent, Wash., will oversee all day-to-day and competition-related matters at The Strip.
“We’re thrilled to have someone with Jeff’s background and expertise to manage one of the finest drag-racing facilities in the world,” said LVMS president Chris Powell. “Jeff has built solid relationships with NHRA officials, local and national competitors as well as our staff during his time in drag racing. He’s a very strong addition to the speedway team.”
Foster began working for Seattle International Raceway (now Pacific Raceways) in 1979. From 1985-93, he worked as part of NHRA’s Division 6 staff in addition to his duties at SIR. He also assisted at Renegade Raceways in Yakima, Wash., during that time.
Foster was tapped to join the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series national event staff in 1999. In 2003, Foster joined CompuLink Timing Systems – the industry leader in installation and maintenance of drag strip timing systems – working with drag strip operators throughout the United States and Canada, supporting NHRA national event timing and scoring. He also began working with The Strip at LVMS in 2003, assisting management at major events. Foster moved to the Las Vegas area in 2009 and became a regular member of the staff when not assigned to NHRA national events.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to take on a greater role here at the speedway and to work with a terrific staff,” said Foster. “We have a fantastic facility here, and I am looking forward to helping continue to make it one of the favorite tracks of fans and competitors.”
