United States Sen. Dean Heller, a former competitor at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, is giving back to his racing roots by sponsoring the Oct. 22 Fall Classic, which will be called the Senator's Cup Fall Classic.
Heller, the former Nevada Secretary of State (1995-2007) and representative for Nevada's Second Congressional District (2007-11), competed at the 3/8-mile paved oval in the early 2000s.
Heller (R-Nev.) got into racing through his father, Jack, who raced Super Stocks, and has been a longtime supporter of LVMS through the years. He will attend the race and present the champion's check in the Winner's Circle.
"Racing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, so I wanted to give back to the local racers of Las Vegas who are living their dreams," said Heller, who has raced cars and trucks at The Bullring. "I love The Bullring and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and there is just something special about competing under the bright lights here in Las Vegas. It's a thrill to be part of such a great event, and I look forward to seeing who comes out on top."
Heller, a Carson City native, also has raced at The Strip at LVMS, squaring off against former Las Vegas Metro Sheriff Bill Young at the drag strip's Thursday Night Street Wars in June 2005. He is a former member of the House Ways and Means Committee and serves on the Committee on Finance, the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, Committee on Veterans' Affairs, the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee and the Special Committee on Aging.
"Senator Heller has been a great friend to Las Vegas Motor Speedway and to local motorsports in Las Vegas for years, and we are thrilled to have his support for the Senator's Cup Fall Classic," said Chris Powell, LVMS president. "The Super Late Model 150 is one of The Bullring's premier races, and it's very exciting to have Sen. Heller as an integral part of this event."
In addition to the $15,000-to-win NASCAR Super Late Models feature, Late Models, NASCAR Super Stocks, USAC HPD Midgets, the Southwest Tour Trucks, NASCAR Bombers and USLCI Bandoleros will compete on the special night. Qualifying Night for the popular event will take place on Friday, Oct. 21, and will include feature races for the USAC HPD Midgets and Southwest Tour Trucks classes.
One of the most affordable entertainment options in Las Vegas, the Bullring features family friendly concession prices that include $2 hot dogs and Coca-Cola products and $3 Budweiser beer. Spectators can also save money by purchasing tickets in advance by visiting or calling the LVMS ticket office at 702.644.4444 or going online at LVMS.com.
