Las Vegas' Justin Johnson used a victory and a runner-up finish on Back to School Night on Saturday to widen his lead in the NASCAR Super Late Models divisional points standings heading into the Sept. 24 Championship Night.

Johnson, who is looking for his first Bullring season title since 2008, gained 18 crucial points during the bookend 35-lap features to push his advantage over six-time track champion Scott Gafforini to 260-234. Johnson, who won a USLCI Thunder Car points championship in 2008 and a USLCI Bandolero Outlaws crown in 2000, has 49 career Saturday night wins at the 3/8-mile paved oval.

He was one of several points leaders who expanded their points leads at the Sept. 10 event. Sam Jacks (NASCAR Bombers), Vinny Raucci Jr. (NASCAR Grand American Modifieds), Cameron Morga (USLCI Legends-Pro), Michael Todd Glazier (USLCI Legends-Masters), Brian Williams (USLCI Legends-Semi-Pro) and R.J. Smotherman (USLCI Bandolero Bandits) also increased their points leads on Back to School Night and are in the driver's seat for class championships.

Four-time track champion Caden Carlin fell into a tie for the USLCI Legends-Young Lions division's points lead with Dezel West after West made up 21 points on Saturday. Both drivers have 185 points heading into the final race.

In The Bullring's second-closest race, Travis Boyle leads Chris Bosley by just two points, 225-223, heading into Championship Night after both drivers earned 22 points on Saturday. Boyle is the 2011 Bullring USLCI Thunder Cars champion, while Bosley won the division's title in 2014.

Points leaders Don Sargent (NASCAR Super Stocks) and Kayla Eshleman (USLCI Bandolero Outlaws) lost a bit of ground on their nearest competitors on Back to School Night, but still have good chances to win class championships. Sargent leads second-place Matt Larsen 201-184, while Eshleman holds a more precarious 203-199 advantage over Larsen's son, Camden.

All drivers will be able to drop their worst performance from the 2016 season, making the Sept. 24 Championship Night even more exciting in the close points races. Track champions will be crowned that night after a full slate of racing.

One of the most affordable entertainment options in Las Vegas, the Bullring features family friendly concession prices that include $2 hot dogs and Coca-Cola products and $3 Budweiser beer. Spectators can also save money by purchasing tickets in advance by visiting or calling the LVMS ticket office at 702.644.4444 or going online at LVMS.com.
