World-famous comedian Carrot Top and San Francisco Giants centerfielder Aaron Rowand will be among the competitors in the inaugural Las Vegas Motor Speedway Celebrity Go-kart Challenge Dec. 1.
The event, which will be held in conjunction with the Chasers for Charity Fanfest, will feature local celebrities, race fans and projected 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie of the year Kevin Conway. The race will start at 12:30 p.m. and is free to everyone.
Headlining the celebrities is Carrot Top. The renowned comedian is famous for his self-made, comedy props and has a nightly show at the Luxor Hotel and Casino.
Joining Carrot Top among the celebrities is San Francisco Giants’ centerfielder Aaron Rowand. Rowand, who makes his offseason home in Las Vegas, made several key plays as the Giants defeated the Texas Rangers to capture their first World Series crown since the team moved from New York to San Francisco.
Rowand has a .276 lifetime batting average and has hit 132 home runs in a 10-year career that included stints with the Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. In 2005, he was part of the White Sox World Series-winning team.
Kevin Burke, who stars in the one-man show “Defending the Caveman” at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino also will be part of the celebrity lineup. Burke, who also performs stand-up comedy, will host the Speedway Feud game show involving the 12 Chase drivers following the go-kart race. The final local celebrity will be Natalie Lefler, one half of the KWNR morning team of Mark & Natalie.
In addition to the celebrities and Conway, four fans will be chosen to compete in the race. Fans can register to enter contests with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, KVVU FOX 5, KCYE 102.7-FM The Coyote and KOMP 92.3-FM. Winning fans will compete in the go-kart race and also will receive VIP access to the Speedway Feud game show following the race.
