Four-time Rally America champion and multiple-time X Games gold medalist Travis Pastrana will be part of a 31-driver field that will race for the checkered flag in the Rhino Linings 350 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday night.
The Annapolis, Md., native will drive the NTS Motorsports No. 31 Chevrolet in the 219-mile race. This will be Pastrana's first NCWTS race since competing in the 2012 Smith's 350 in Las Vegas.
"Couldn't be more excited right now," Pastrana said via his Instagram account on Sept. 23. "Huge thanks to GunBroker.com, Never Too Hungover, my friend Lance Fenton, Lazy F Ranch and NTS Motorsports, for giving me an opportunity to race the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series weekend in Vegas! Boogity, boogity, boogity, it's time to go racing boys!"
Pastrana has competed in a multitude of different motorsports series, including the NASCAR Xfinity Series - he finished 14th in points in 2013 as part of the Roush Fenway Racing team - motocross, supercross and rally car racing. The 31-year-old has eight X Games gold medals, has competed in the Rolex Sports Car Series, K&N Pro Series East and West and Rally America.
Pastrana has long had a presence on TV, hosting an MTV show called "Nitro Circus" and serving as the inspiration for the ESPN documentary "199 Lives: The Travis Pastrana Story." In 2010, he set a ramp-to-ramp car jump world record and has various other world records on his resume.
He will have to contend with Rhino Linings 350 defending champion Erik Jones, Las Vegas native Spencer Gallagher, 2014 NCWTS champion Matt Crafton, among others, at the famed 1.5-mile track. In addition, 2013 Rhino Linings 350 champion Timothy Peters and 2009 winner Johnny Sauter will be looking to join Jack Sprague and Mike Skinner as the only repeat Truck Series winners at LVMS.
Jones leads Crafton by just seven points in the 2015 NCWTS standings heading into the Las Vegas race, and Tyler Reddick is just 19 back, so they will be racing hard to earn crucial points as the season winds down. Only five races remain on this year's NCWTS schedule after this weekend's 146-lap affair at LVMS.
