Al Alguire of Las Vegas defeated John Parrino of Saugus, Calif., to win the Super Street class of the annual JEGS Pacific Sportsnationals tonight at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Alguire's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda went 11.042 sec./151.34 mph on a stellar .009 reaction time to Parrino's 10.961/128.93 mph (.027 reaction time).
Eliminations at The Strip at LVMS were halted more than two hours by wind and rain.
Brian Fischle of Twin Peaks, Calif., defeated Craig Blaisdell of Anderson, Calif., in the Super Comp category.
The fastest final of the meet was Top Sportsman, with Canadian Rod Hymas of Alberta taking the win at 193.77 mph over Utah's Ed Olpin.
Super Gas honors went to Kevin McClelland of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. over Pete Bothe of Long Beach, Calif.
Canada’s Dale Giroux took Comp Eliminator honors over Randy Jones of Monarch Beach, Calif., who fouled on the starting line.
Keith Lynch of Greenville, Ohio, took the JEGS Super Stock trophy over Larry Scarth of Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Michael Brand II of Thornton, Colo. won Stock Eliminator over Mark Faul of Tacoma, Wash.
The Top Dragster finale went to Oregon’s Tom Koenen over Thomas Bayer of Fontana, Calif.
Sportsman Motorcycle was an all-La Mirada, Calif., all-Suzuki final with Aaron Pine taking the win over Gaige Herrera.
The next event at The Strip at LVMS is the Oct. 24-27 NHRA Toyota Nationals for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Children 12 and under will be admitted free each day when accompanied by a paying adult.
