The sports book at the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower has selected five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson as the favorite to win Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Johnson has made four trips to LVMS’ victory lane in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2012) and is listed at 9/2.

Defending Kobalt Tools 400 champion Carl Edwards is listed at 8/1, as is last week’s Phoenix winner, Denny Hamlin.

Of the three hometown heroes, Kyle Busch boasts the best odds at 6/1. Kurt Busch’s new team is facing tall odds at 35/1 and Brendan Gaughan is in what’s referred to as “the field” (all others) at 15/1.

Defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart – although winless at LVMS – is posted at 7/1.Daytona 500 winner and two-time Kobalt Tools 400 champ Matt Kenseth is on the board at 10/1.

NASCAR Weekend at the superspeedway kicks off on Friday with Stratosphere Pole Day. The NASCAR Nationwide Series takes center stage on Saturday with the annual Sam’s Town 300 at 2 p.m. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt Tools 400 is scheduled to start at noon on Sunday.

The race weekend begins Wednesday with IMCA Modified and West Coast Late Model racing at the recently-resurfaced half-mile Dirt Track. The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series will take command of the clay oval on Thursday and will be joined by the 360 Sprint Car Series and IMCA Modifieds.
