Each summer, Jr. Dragster racers from all over the western half of the United States gather in Denver for the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League's Western Conference Finals. Each NHRA member track may send teams of up to 10 racers to compete for the honor of being crowned champion. This year, Team LVMS joined hundreds of racers at the event with only a partial team. But that did not stop them from showing what they are made of. With only nine of the 10 total allowed, the team from The Strip at LVMS finished second overall, falling just one point shy of first place. Of the nine racers on the team, five of them posted semi-final appearances or better.
Talyor Vetter made it to the semi-finals in the 16-17 age group where she broke out by .006. Her brother, Trey Vetter, also made it into the semis in the 15-year-old age group. Joining them in the semi-final rounds was K.J. Desa, representing the team in the 11-year-old category. Desa is a former winner at the Western Conference finals, taking home the trophy 3 years ago in the 8-9 age group. Cody Webber made it all the way to the final round in the 15-year-old-age group and ended up with a runner-up finish for his efforts.
Finally, Tabitha Boardman brought home the Wally trophy in the 8-9-year-old category. She was first off the line in her final round matchup against Dutch Farr from Barona Raceway. Her .073 reaction time was enough to get her the win as she ran 13.447 on a 13.20 dial.
