Two past winners of Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Smith’s 350 for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series participated in a pre-race press conference this afternoon in Las Vegas.
Todd Bodine of Chemung, N.Y., won the Smith’s 350 in 2005 and earned series championships in 2006 and 2007. He also won the 2001 Sam’s Town 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at LVMS.
“I’ve always enjoyed Las Vegas,” Bodine said. “I’ve been with good race teams and you have to have good equipment. I’m fortunate enough to have that and right now I’m with another great race team, Red Horse Racing, and I have great Toyota Tundras to drive every week. Toyota has been supporting us all year. It’s been a tough year though – I’ve had a lot of bad luck – but we’re ready to come out here and shake it off. Vegas is my type of track.”
Brendan Gaughan of Las Vegas captured the pole and winner’s check in 2003 and would like nothing better than to renew his relationship with victory lane at his home track.
“I’ve always loved Vegas. It’s always been a very special place to me,” said the Bishop Gorman High School graduate. “My grandfather (Las Vegas casino owner Jackie Gaughan) has been here since 1948. It’s always special to race here in front of the hometown crowd – in front of high school friends and family friends. I love racing here. I love what’s been done to the track. Unfortunately, my race shop is not here anymore, but fortunately I drive for a man named Richard Childress now and he gives me some of the best Chevrolets you could ever ask for in life. Things are looking really good right now. I should be ready to go.
“I always come in here wanting to win,” Gaughan emphasized. “I always come in here on a positive note. But this is the first year I can come here and really say that in every part of my body I feel like we have equipment that can come out here and win. It has really energized me.”
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers will sign autographs in the Neon Garage in the infield of the superspeedway from 6-7 p.m. on Friday following the final practice session.
The Smith’s 350 is slated to start at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, with SYLVANIA SilverStar® zXe Global RallyCross Championship action on the schedule at approximately 8:30 p.m. Spectator gates will open at 3 p.m.
