More than 525 dedicated drag racers are converging upon The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend for a festival of speed known as the NHRA Summit Racing Series Pacific Division ET Finals.
Drivers representing 15 of the Pacific Division's 18 member tracks will compete for individual and team awards Thursday through Sunday at the same drag strip where two of the four NHRA world champions clinched their titles a year ago. Thursday and Friday's racing lineup consists of time trials and Gambler Eliminations, the team event follows on Saturday, and Sunday is the Summit Showdown.
The Summit Showdown features the top five racers from each track in their respective classes squaring off for a chance to represent Division 7 in the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship Nov. 10-13 at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif. Each track can enter two teams of up to 40 racers per squad in Saturday's team event.
This is the first time since 2013 that The Strip at LVMS has hosted the NHRA Summit Racing Series Pacific Division ET Finals.
The NHRA Summit Racing Series is contested across North America and forms the world's largest motorsports program, in terms of racer participation. The bracket racing format allows drivers in many types of vehicles, including dragsters, roadsters, sedans and coupes, to compete on an equal basis.
As many as 80,000 racers participate in the NHRA Summit Racing Series; it is the largest organized series in drag racing nationwide. NHRA has featured an E.T. drag racing series since the mid-1970s. It provides even and exciting competition for the local racer, the backbone of NHRA.
