LVMS Construction Update (May 15-19)
Las Vegas Motor Speedway's Public Relations Department will be providing weekly construction updates as the speedway undergoes its multi-million dollar facelift, which will result in a new fan interactive garage area, a pit road closer to the grandstands, resurfaced and re-banked racing surface and state-of-the-art media center.
In the past week, construction crews have completed the following tasks:
· Brought 40,000 more cubic yards of dirt into the infield. This dirt will make up the fill needed for the new 20-degree banked turns. So far, 80,000 of the 120,000 cubic yards of dirt needed for the project has been put in place.
· Completed the construction of the back stretch and Turn 2 retaining wall. Crews should be finished building the wall in Turns 1 and 2 by the end of the weekend.
· Completed the building pad for the new Busch garage.
· Work is half completed on the building pad for the new media center.
· The sub-grade and base is completed for the new pit lane. The setting of the concrete pit boxes is scheduled to begin next week.
· Two of the three infield tunnels have been extended.
