Tuesday, January 29, 2008

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series sophomore Juan Pablo Montoya placed his name at the top of
the list as testing came to a close at Las Vegas Motor Speedway today.  Montoya's No. 42A Texaco/Havoline Dodge blazed a lap of 28.914 sec./186.761 mph during the afternoon session of NASCAR Preseason Thunder Las Vegas,  eclipsing the track record of 29.212 sec./184.856 mph set by Kasey Kahne in 2007.

A.J. Allmendinger's Toyota was second at 29.071 sec./185.752 mph.  Casey Mears' Chevrolet was third at 29.135 sec./185.344 mph.  Carl Edwards, fastest in the morning session, was eighth at 184.729 mph.

Turn 3 doubled as Calamity Corner today.  Michael Waltrip, Tony Stewart and Jeff Burton left their marks on the Turn 3 fence but no injuries were sustained.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series (formerly Busch Series) will test at LVMS Wednesday and Thursday.
