Joe Nemechek said he has four solid reasons to feel good about his chances at this weekend¿s UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400.

The veteran driver, whose Chevrolet will carry the USG Sheetrock Brand colors at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, said one reason for his buoyant feeling is how quickly the 01 team has come together since he took over the ride with four races remaining in 2003.

¿We¿ve gotten off to a pretty good start and that¿s the way we want to keep it,¿ said Nemechek, who enters Las Vegas 10th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings. ¿I like everything about this team and it¿s nice to go into a race with the feeling that you have the ability to be competitive and run with the leaders.¿

The other reasons for Nemechek¿s Las Vegas optimism is based on the three previous times he has driven on the 1.5-mile track.

He won the Las Vegas Busch race last year, finished ninth the following day in the Cup race and posted excellent results in a recent test session at the massive facility, located 15 miles from the famed Strip.

¿Las Vegas has been a very good track for me in the past,¿ recalled Nemechek, who will also compete in Saturday's Busch race. ¿However, my record should be better there -- I¿ve had some awful good Cup cars but it seemed like something always happened to us in the race.

"Hopefully, everything we'll go our way this weekend in the USG Sheetrock Brand Chevrolet. We had a good test there in January and that has us feeling positive.¿

Nemechek, who has a reputation of being one of the most savvied drivers on the circuit, feels that tires will once again play a big factor in Sunday¿s 267-lap race.

¿I think tires will be a huge topic in Las Vegas,¿ offered Nemechek. ¿From what we gathered at our test there, it seemed like tire wear was almost like in Rockingham, meaning handling will be even a bigger factor in Las Vegas than it has been in the past.¿

The Las Vegas event will be the first of four races in 2004 that USG Sheetrock Brand will be the primary sponsor for the MB2 Motorsports entry. The other three races will be: Chicago (July 11), New Hampshire (Sept. 19) and Darlington, S.C. (Nov. 14).

The United States Army will continue to be the primary sponsor on the 01 Chevrolet for all of the other Cup races. At the USG races, the U.S. Army will be an associate sponsor on the car.
