Former NFL kicker Mike Cofer collected his fifth Super Late Model win at The Orleans NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Saturday. Cofer was the fastest qualifier and started sixth in the 40-lap main event. Cofer charged to second position on lap 8 to challenge race leader Scott Gafforini, who started on the outside pole. Cofer took command on lap 10. Late in the race, Cofer was challenged by 16-year-old Spencer Clark and David Anderson. Cofer was able to maintain his lead to take the checkered flag and mark his fifth win this season. Anderson finished second followed by Clark and Rick Rochell. ¿It was tough. Spencer (Clark) and David Anderson were running right with me,¿ Cofer said. ¿The car wasn¿t good on restarts and this seemed to be the night for restarts. Once we got going three to four laps in a run we would be gone. It feels good to get another win. Our goal is to creep back up the points ladder and see if we can be in the fight at the end. Tonight was big for us with fast time and a win.¿ Semi-Pro Legends Cars driver Jimmy Parker Jr. posted his first career win in the 20-lap main event. The 16-year-old was the fastest qualifier, but started sixth after the invert. In his sophomore year Parker Jr. took an early lead from race leader Taylor Barton and maintained it to take the checkered flag. Tom Lovelady finished second followed by Alex Haase and Barton. ¿After two years, it is nice to win a race,¿ Parker Jr. said. ¿We raced well and my car was hooked up.¿ In the 20-lap Pro/Master Legends Cars main event Masters driver Rick Rogas captured the win, while Robby Guevara was the top finishing Pro driver with a second-place finish. Dennis Lovelady was third followed by Michael Fredericks. Don Sargent posted his fourth Chargers win in the 25-lap main event. Fred Kiser Jr. battled nose-to-tail with Sargent for the lead until he spun mid-race. Sargent was able to hold off the rest of the field for the win. Phil Goodwin finished second followed by Tom Youmans and Doug Matter. Don Williams started on the pole for the Stewart Motorsports IMCA Modified 25-lap feature event. Williams dominated the race to take the checkered flag to post his first win. Larry Gerchman finished second followed by Stoney Gray and Rich Attisani. In the 99-lap Mechanix Wear Speed Truck main event, local Spencer Clark lead laps until his truck broke on lap 31. John Burritt took command after Clark¿s mishap and maintained his lead to post his second win at the Bullring. Lee Hatch finished second followed by Rod Slack and Danny Goodwin.
